Russian President's Special Envoy to the Middle East, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Mikhail Bogdanov said that the tripartite meeting on Syria held on Friday in Geneva stressed the importance of supporting the mission of the UN envoy to Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi.
In an interview with Russia Today TV, Bogdanov said that the participants agreed on continuing communication, adding that the Russian side stressed that the Geneva statement, issued last June, is the basis for the settlement.
He described the meeting as 'fruitful'.
For his part, Brahimi said that "We all stressed the importance of ending the bloodshed and violence in Syria. We also stressed the need to reach a peaceful settlement based on Geneva statement released last June."
He said that the UN Security Council should play a role in finding a starting point for the issue to be settled effectively.
