India hopes for peaceful solution in Syria, stresses readiness to help
Indian Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid expressed his government\'s solidarity with the Syrian people against terrorism and voiced hope of a peaceful solution to the crisis in Syria through Geneva 2 conference.

During a meeting on Thursday with Presidential and Political Media Advisor Buthaina Shaaban, Khurshid hoped the Syrian people will be able to decide their future by themselves, stressing the Indian government\'s readiness to offer help in any of the areas the Syrians need.

The talks tackled the latest developments in the Syrian arena, with Shaaban reviewing the acts of terrorism targeting the civilians and infrastructure in the country and the attempts by some regional and international forces to hinder a political solution.

She reiterated the Syrian government\'s firm stance to take part in the intended international conference in Geneva without preconditions and its keenness to find a peaceful solution and bring an end to terrorism.

Shaaban voiced the Syrian government\'s desire that India and the BRICS countries participate in the efforts to find a peaceful solution in Syria and taking an international position against terrorism.

She stressed that the need that democratic and peace-loving countries condemn the atrocities perpetrated by the takfiri terrorist groups against the Syrians.

The political and media advisor also met with Secretary (East) in the Indian Foreign Ministry Ashok Kantha and discussions focused on the issue of Syria\'s accession to the Chemical Weapons Convention and the steps taken in the process of the elimination of its chemical weapons.

Both sides also shed light on the humanitarian situation in Syria and the ongoing suffering under the terrorist acts, with focus laid on the necessity to accelerate reaching a political solution to the crisis.
