Foreign Ministers of Russia and Iran stressed that a solution to the crisis in Syria should be through the international conference intended to be held in Geneva and by the Syrian people themselves.
In a joint press conference held on Wednesday in Tehran, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif affirmed that the international community\'s role should be to provide the necessary support to reach a diplomatic political solution in Syria.
Zarif reiterated that there can be no military solution to the crisis in Syria, and that the only solution is a political one that should be figured out by the Syrian people, stressing that everybody should help the Syrians in this effort.
He noted that Iran\'s relationship with Russia has contributed to confronting a possible foreign intervention against Syria, pointing out that the two countries\' relations are focused on cooperation to maintain world peace.
Zarif hoped that "Geneva 2" will help stop the major humanitarian crisis in Syria, adding that Tehran has made meetings in this regards with all countries, especially the P5+1 in addition to regular meetings with Russia and China.
He stressed that Russia has a significant role in stopping the crisis in Syria and preventing any military action against the country.
Lavrov, in turn, said all states should support convening Geneva 2 conference on Syria, adding if the conference was not held, that would be because of some counties\' non-compliance with the international community rules.
He reaffirmed that a military solution is useless for solving the crisis in Syria, stressing his country\'s support to halting violence and respecting Syria\'s sovereignty and the equal rights of all spectra of the Syrian people.
Lavrov asserted that Iran\'s attendance in the international conference in Syria is "very important" given the effective role as a main player in the region.
He said that the "Geneva 2" is supported by all the countries of the international community, which should comply with the Resolution No 2118, adding that "Some countries believe that using force will solve this issue. All countries should shoulder responsibilities and support holding the conference."
He pointed out that the talks he held in Tehran dealt with the regional issues, foremost the crisis in Syria and Iran\'s obtaining of nuclear technology for peaceful purposes
