Russian Former Prime Minister and Chairman of Russian Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society Sergey Stepashin, said that he will discuss with Pope Francis in the Vatican the Christians situation in the Middle East and offering humanitarian aid to the Syrian people.
In an interview with Russian Izvestia newspaper published on Monday, Stepashin added that the Russian Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society seek to contribute to finding a peaceful solution to the crisis in Syria and supporting the Christians.
He stressed the necessity of preventing the demolishing of the Christian holy places like what has happened in Syria, Lebanon and Libya and suppression against the Christians.
He pointed out that the Society, which he is chairing, consists of civil society organizations and seeks to carry out a humanitarian mission in Syria since last March as it sent 8 airplanes carrying medicine and food assistance to the Syrian people.
He called for firm commitment to the principle of religious concord “because it is what unifies the Syrian people against the terrorists who have no religion.”
