Chairman of the Iranian Shura Council\'s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Alaa-Eddin Borujerdi said holding presidential elections in Syria under the current circumstances would be among the influential factors in restoring security and stability to it.
Borujerdi\'s remarks came during a meeting with a number of Arab and foreign ambassadors accredited in Tehran. The meeting came in preparation for the 2nd meeting of heads of parliamentary foreign committees of the countries friendly to Syria.
He said there is an increasing need for concerted efforts to face terrorism, walk towards an inter-Syrian political solution and reject any foreign interference in Syria.
He viewed the holding of the intended meeting in Tehran as an important step that would help in finding a solution to the crisis.
Syria\'s Ambassador Adnan Mahmoud, for his part, said the timing of the meeting reflects the "honest will" on the part of those countries to extend help to the Syrian people in confronting terrorism and the support given to them by some Western and regional countries.
He cited those countries\' stress in the concluding statement of the first meeting that holding free presidential elections is a right of the Syrian people.
The statement, Mahmoud said, also included a stress on respecting the will and votes of the Syrian people at the ballot boxes and rejecting any foreign interference in their internal affairs.
The Palestinian Ambassador in Tehran Salah al-Zuwawi said Syria is being subjected to these attacks because it has always been a major active country in the resistance against the Zionist occupiers.
Syria\'s real friends, he added, must support it in the face of the conspirators and occupiers.
