President Al Assad to Paris Match: Air Strikes Can not Eliminate

Damascus-Nibal Bakfalouni

President Bashar Al Assad declared that it is not possible to eliminate terrorism and achieve results on the ground through air strikes. Ground forces must be available who are familiar with the geographical details and move simultaneously with the air forces. Therefore, after almost two months of coalition campaigns against ISIS, there are no real results in this regard.
President Al Assad added in an interview with Regies Le Sumeir, deputy editor of Paris Match, which is published tomorrow: "the saying that the strikes of the coalition support us is not true. If these strikes were serious and effective, I would tell you that we would have benefited from them. However, we are fighting ISIS on the ground, yet haven't detected any change in the situation noting that Turkey is still supporting ISIS directly in those areas."
In a reply to a question about the possibility of re-communicating with the French President, president Al Assad said: "It is not a personal matter. I do not know him personally. It is a case of international relations between states and institutions and mutual benefits between two nations. We will communicate with any French government and officials which is working to achieve mutual benefit, however the current administration is against our people and the French as well. I do not find any logic to be a personal enemy for Mr. Holand, as we do not compete over anything. I think he is competing ISIS in France as his popularity is very close to that of ISIS in France."
President AL Assad added: The Capitan does not think of life or death when his ship sinks. It is worth saving the ship, everybody will die. Therefore, it is our priority to save our country. I just want to confirm one point which is me being a president has not been a target any time. But as Syrians, we will not agree to play the role of a "doll" in the hands of the west. This is clearly one of our goals and principles."
