A statement made by the information minister in the aftermath of the Akbarea bombing

A statement made by the information minister in the aftermath of the Akbarea bombing
My condolences to all journalists and media men and all our people in Syria, on the martyrdom of the Syrian media men this morning. With the first prayer call of “Allah Akbar” at 4am a number of terrorists that has not been defined as yet to this moment, stormed the Syrian NEWS channel’s headquarter where we are at the moment rigging the buildings and studios and blowing up everything they could, from newsrooms to offices to studios and equipment, carrying in their vehicles all the equipment they could carry to take away with them, but even worse, is the massacre they have committed by killing the Syrian journalists and employees present there, in addition to the guards and the civilian guards, as I said the civilian staff, the telephone and the reception staff as well as everyone else. What happened today or at dawn today is certainly a massacre in the true sense of the word, it is not a massacre against people but against the media, against the freedom of the media and media ethics. We cannot say that this came from vacuum or it is just another terrorist act. The EU decided yesterday in Luxembourg to impose sanctions on the Syrian Radio and Television with all its satellite or terrestrial channels, in addition to its non-stop instigative media campaign against Syria on the known Arabic and foreign channels, instigating to commit massacres, to kill and perpetrate violence, this campaign has been crowned this morning by an onslaught on the word and the freedom of the word,as well as on the professional journalistic work in absolutely the worst massacre against journalism and media work. I hold accountable the EU with all its institutions, as well as the Information Ministers around the world, the Arab Information Ministers’ council, the media code of honor, and all the Arab and foreign press, the human rights council, the UN, the Arab League and its Secretary General who along with members of the Security Council, Arab Information Ministers, and the Arab hostile media are intentionally ignoring the onslaught on Syria and the massacres being perpetrated against the Syrian people. I invite you to film this scene, all the rooms, everywhere, those who arrived with us early this morning saw the bodies of the martyrs, the way those journalists were tied and executed, those who arrived and are present here know exactly what happened. I hold responsible for this crime all those instigating violence and aggression on Syria whether they belong to the media or no, as well as the Security Council and foremost those ignoring the existence of the armed terrorist gangs, and all those who want to bring devastation to destroy Syria, to pull it down to where they want, this crime will not go by neither morally nor ethically nor legally or politically. Some Arab media are not reporting or filming, they haven’t even to this moment broadcast the news about this ugly massacre despite the fact that the Syrian TV reported the crime on the Syrian channels as of dawn today. Those channels claiming that they are defending freedom, honor, Democracy and the freedom of the word have not even taken the trouble to broadcast the news or talk about the martyrdom of journalists, media men and technicians standing behind cameras and satellite broadcasting equipment. In any case, this incident will not stop the Syrian News channel from broadcasting the word of freedom, democracy and media ethics will go on protected, Syria’s voice on all her media channels will continue to confront all the conspiracies and attempts to prevent Syria from her satellite broadcast in line with the AL’s decision to stop Syria broadcasting on Nilesat and Arabsat, let those Arab Ministers come to see how their decision has been interpreted. I hold the AL Secretary General personally accountable, as well as the AL Council which took the decision to stop the satellite broadcast, I hold them responsible legally and not only politically for this horrendous crime. They are responsible and they should be held accountable as those who committed this massacre were executing the AL resolution to silence the Syrian media.
