Dr. Mohammad Amer Mardini, Minister of Higher Education inaugurated today the Department of Russian Language and Literature affiliated to the Faculty of Literature and Humanities of Damascus University. Dr. Mardini stated that the higher education system is responding to job market demand. He commended the massive turnout of students to the Department of Russian Language in spite the high school grade requisite.
Both Dr. Mardini and the Russian ambassador to Damascus, Azamatullah Kolmohammadov considered that inaugurating this department indicates how close the two friendly countries are. Mr. Kolmohammadov said that Russia will continue its support to the Syrian people in combating terrorism and reaching peace.
A documentary footage about Russia was shown during the ceremony along with a piece of Russian folklore music. Moreover, a short act depicting the teaching the Russian language in Damascus University was played. It is worth mentioning that the new department will host 80 students in the study year 2014-2015
