President Bashar al-Assad stressed on Sunday the Syrians’ resolve to eradicate terrorism and extremist thoughts that are menacing the region and the world.
During his meeting with Speaker of Iran’s Shura Council Ali Larijani and the accompanying Iranian delegation, the President affirmed that the Syrians are also keen to proceed with and boost national reconciliations across Syria on a parallel track with combating terrorism.
He said the Syrian people are proud of the historical brotherly relations binding them with the people of Iran, “which have witnessed many successes on the bilateral and regional levels over the past decades.”
Iran’s stance on Syria is highly appreciated by the Syrians, the President noted, stressing the latter’s keenness to further bolster cooperation with the Iranian side in all domains in a way that serves the common interests shared by the two countries and the establishment of security and stability in the region.
The Iranian Parliament’s Speaker, for his part, applauded the Syrian people for their steadfastness in countering the terrorist war targeting their security and stability.
While hailing the Syrians’ steadfastness, Larijani made it clear that the people of Iran will not hesitate to provide all forms of support to Syria to the effect of further consolidating the requirements of this steadfastness and fighting terrorism and its backers.
The Iranian official also underscored Tehran’s support for the efforts seeking to push forward holding a national dialogue among the Syrians, which he said would maintain Syria’s sovereignty and national unity away from external interferences.
Speaker of the People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Laham, Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdullahian, the delegation accompanying Larijani and Iran’s Ambassador in Damascus attended the meeting.
Al-Halqi, Larijani discuss implementing agreements and work plans
In a similar meeting, Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi and Larijani discussed means to implement the agreements and work plans between Syria and Iran and realizing them on the ground, particularly in the field of expanding commercial exchange, procuring the Syrian people’s needs, rehabilitating sectors damaged by terrorism, and participating in the reconstruction stage.
Premier al-Halqi said that Syrian-Iranian cooperation realizes the hopes of the region’s people, lauding Iran’s support for the Syrian people in the face of the unjust economic embargo imposed on them.
For his part, Larijani reiterated Iran’s commitment to providing all sorts of support to the Syrian people and leadership, asserting that Syria’s victory over terrorism is drawing near.
They also discussed the results of the recent visit of Premier al-Halqi and the accompanying delegation to Iran, stressing that the visit will expand joint action and cooperation prospects.
Al-Moallem, Larijani assert need to pursue political solution for crisis in Syria
Similarly, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem and Larijani held a meeting on Sunday evening, with talks focusing on bilateral relations and the need to continue providing support, coordinating, and cooperating to combat terrorism.
Al-Moallem thanked Iran’s people and leadership for their support for Syria, stressing the need to continue pursuing a political solution for the crisis in Syria based on inter-Syrian dialogue without foreign interference.
In turn, Larijani asserted that Iran will continue to support Syria in its battle against terrorism.
