Ministry of Education, UNESCO discuss suggestions for developing education strategy in Syria
The Education Ministry, in cooperation with Regional Bureau of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for Education in the Arab States, held on Monday a seminar to discuss suggestions for developing the education strategy in Syria over the next two years.

At the seminar, Education Minister Hazwan al-Waz pointed out that the process of developing the education strategy begins with comprehensive planning of education, learning about the latest educational systems, and following the latest developments and applications in the field of education in order to reach to the best possible education system.

He clarified that the learning process aims at preparing students for life through improving their mental skills and mobility capabilities so that the graduated generations become educated and capable of making decisions and helping themselves and others and to find innovative solutions to critical issues.

The minister noted that the curricula are formed in a manner that identifies with the culture and social structures that prevail in the community.

In a statement to journalists after the seminar, Director of the Beirut-based Regional Bureau of the UNESCO for Education in the Arab States Hamad Bin Saif al-Hammami said that the aim of this seminar is to be informed by those in charge of the educational process about the basic needs of the next stage and developing a plan to meet those needs.

He noted that the UNESCO, in cooperation with Education Ministry, is working on revising the curricula and providing intensive training for workers in the Curricula Department, adding that the UNESCO is contributing to the rehabilitation of some schools in Aleppo and seeking to open two prefabricated schools to accommodate the children of the city of Aleppo.

Al-Hammami pointed out that the UNESCO also seeks to convey what is happening to Syria abroad via international and regional conferences and forums.

Speaking to reporters, al-Waz hailed the technical, logistical, and financial support provided by UNESCO through helping in repairing some schools and cooperating with the ministry to develop curricula, training educational staff, and preparing a psychological and social support guide
