A new way to recycle the tree-trimming remnants
The manager of the Scientific Agricultural Research Department at the Ministry of Agriculture, Naief Asselti, stressed that the researchers found successful results for recycling the remnants of olive trees, in making fodder for the live stocks.
The results showed that this type of fodder can save about one hundred and sixty one Syrian pounds per every head of the herd, and it is also more nutritious, this research was conducted on calves and sheep. The department manager noted that there are up to six hundred and twenty six tons of olive tree remenants each year, and with the expansion of olive cultivation this number is expected to reach two million tons; he also indicated that sixty four percent of the total area planted with fruit trees is cultivated by the olive trees which, at the same time, occupy nine point nine percent of the total cultivated area.
He also explained that there are other “Tree Recycling Researches” being made, with results showing the economic feasibility of recycled cotton remnants and remnants of the food the industry.
