Ghassan Jazmati, chairman of Damascus goldsmith society confirmed that handicrafts have started exporting Syrian gold crafts to several Arab countries. The exporter has to import, within one month of exporting, an equal weight of raw gold. Import tax is $100/kg payable to the Central Bank of Syria.
Jazmati said that the society is planning to participate in Dubai’s exhibition in April 2015. He said that gold sales are limited to Syrian ounces and Syrian Gold Liras and this was the norm in this time of the year. According to the Society records, 700 craftsmen were back in business in 2014 compared to only 200 in 2012.
