Damascus -The Ministry of Electricity announced the mechanism to resume feeding agricultural wells with electric power based on five specified priorities for applicants according to the voltage and the source of supply.
Electricity Minister Emad Khamis said the main goal of resuming the feeding process after a three-year pause is to support the agricultural sector, noting that about 49 megawatt were allocated this year to feed the wells gradually, distributed across the Syrian provinces based on the number of applications and the capacity available at the companies.
Khamis highlighted in a statement to SANA the Ministry's plan for 2011 in terms of supplying almost all the agricultural wells in the provinces with electric power given the great steps Syria has made regarding power generation projects.
The Cabinet agreed in its session held on the 23rd of April on the Ministry's proposed mechanism to provide electric feeding to artesian wells and shifting them from diesel to electricity with the aim of upgrading the agricultural sector and alleviating burdens and costs on farmers and peasants.
