Damascus – Minister of Electricity Imad Khamis underlined on Sunday the importance of the electric power projects the ministry is carrying out to meet the growing electric energy demands and the requirements of the development process.

During a tour of Deir Ali and Tishreen electric power stations, the Minister called for increasing efforts and finding new ways to develop methodology and operation and benefiting from available expertise to meet the ministry's new strategy.

In a statement to the press, Khamis said that work on expanding Deir Ali power station is underway in cooperation with Greek and Italian companies, which includes adding a photoelectric power station which is ministry's first foray into harnessing solar energy.

He also said that the project for expanding Tishreen power station is almost complete, with two out of three new energy generators being put into service.
