Russian Foreign Ministry: Participants in Lausanne meeting on Syria stress commitment to preserve Syria’s integrity
Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that the participants in Lausanne meeting on Syria held on Saturday stressed their commitment to preserve Syria’s integrity, where the Syrians themselves would determine their future.

In a statement, the Russian Ministry said Sunday that “All participants of the meeting confirmed their commitment to preserve Syria as an integral, independent and secular state, where the Syrian people will determine the country’s future through an inclusive political dialogue.”

The statement clarified that the Russian side said that “the separation of the so-called moderate opposition from Jabhat al-Nusra and other terrorist groups was necessary for the renewal of the ceasefire regime,” adding that military operations against ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organizations are continuous.

A four-hour meeting was held Saturday in the Swiss city of Lausanne for discussing the crisis in Syria with the participation of the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, US Secretary of State John Kerry and a number of foreign ministers from the region, in addition to the UN Sprcial Envoy to Syria, Staffan de Mistura.
