Soprano Isabelle Nicolas to sing for Syria at UN HQ in Geneva
Soprano Isabelle Nicolas is due to hold a concert at the UN headquarters in Geneva on Monday during which she will sing several songs in different languages including “flowers of peace,” composed by Syrian expat Zaher Assaf and written in the Syrian dialect by fellow Syrian expat Iyad Qahoush.

The concert will commemorate the 70th anniversary of the UN Singers’ first performance which took place in New York as a message for peace around the world.

Nicolas told SANA that she wanted to sing for Syria and its people because it’s a beautiful country whose people are kind, and because she cares about what is happening in it, adding that she views it as her duty as an artist and a human being to make this planet a better place.

She said that the “flowers of peace” song seeks to give hope to the Syrian people and be a message of peace for Syria and the world, voicing hope that Syria will rise from the destruction and a better tomorrow will come.

Nicolas, who will be signing in Arabic for the first time, said she wants to repeat do this again, adding that she hopes to visit Syria and sing there and that it would be an honor if she’s invited to sing for the Syrian people in the capital.

For his part, composer Assaf said that when Nicolas asked him for a song in Arabic so sing at the aforementioned event, he contacted his friend, the poet Qahoush, and together they wrote and composed a song brimming with love and hope for Syria.
