The sixth round of talks on Syria in Astana has kicked off with the participation of the Syrian Arab Republic delegation headed by Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari .
All participants of Astana-6 meeting on Syria have arrived in the Kazakh capital, Sputnik quoted Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement Thursday.
The Russian delegation is headed by Russian president’s special representative for Syria Alexander Lavrentiev while the Iranian delegation is led by Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari.
“UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan De Mistura has also arrived to take part in the meeting as an observer. The American delegation, led by acting assistant secretary of state for Near Eastern Affairs David Satterfield, representative of Jordan, representatives of the “Syrian opposition” and the Turkish delegation have also arrived,” the statement read.
The working group on the cessation of hostilities in Syria guarantor states, Russia, Iran and Turkey, held a meeting on Wednesday, launching the 6th high-level meetings of the Astana talks, which
will last for two days.
The Syrian Arab Republic delegation, headed by al- Jaafari, on Wednesday held two separate meetings with Kazakh Foreign Minister Kairat Abdrakhmanov and the Russian delegation led by Lavrentiev for talks on the agenda of the 6th Astana meeting .
Five rounds of talks on the crisis in Syria were held in the Kazakh capital of Astana as all the meetings stressed commitment to Syria’s
sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity in addition to enhancing cessation of hostilities in the country.
