“Palmyra: Rising from Destruction” exhibition to be held at Rome
The Italian “Incontro di Civilta” Association is organizing an exhibition titled “Palmyra: Rising from Destruction,” during the 30th General Assembly of the International Center for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM).

The exhibition will be held in Rome starting from November 29th until December 1st, with the participation of 135 countries.

In a statement, the association pointed out that the exhibition is part of the “Civilization Encounter” event, headed by Francesco Rutelli, former Italian Minister of Culture, and featuring two examples of heritage originating from Palmyra. The first, a replica of the Temple of Bel, has been brought back to life through state-of-the-art technology.

The second, a funeral bust that had been looted from Palmyra during the terrorist attacks on the ancient city and was later recovered in Italy by the Carabinieri’s Command for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, and will be sent back to Syria when conditions permit, according to the same statement.

The Incontro di Civilta Association is also holding a photography exhibition at the Egyptian Academy in Rome named “The Day After: Shadows of Heritage,” which will depict devastated cultural heritage in five countries of the Middle East, pairing before and after photographs to witness the scale of that destruction.
