Solar power project with capacity of 140 kW-h launched in Qudsaya Suburb
A solar power project with a capacity of 140 kW-h was launched on Tuesday at the Educational Complex in Qudsaya Suburb in Damascus Countryside.

The Project cost SYP 110 million, and is implemented in cooperation between the Ministries of Education and Electricity.

In a press statement, Electricity Minister Mohammad Zuhair Kharboutli said the project comes as a part of implementing the agreement signed with the Ministry of Education to benefit from the roofs of schools in the production of electricity, adding that the project consists of a photovoltaic system installed on the roofs of the Educational Complex’s buildings on an area of 2000 square meter, which will produce about 230,000 kW-h annually.

About 80 tons of oil (estimated at SYP 16 million) will be saved by this project, the Minister said, adding that there are other future projects that will be implemented at 6 schools in cooperation with the Education Ministry.

Syria has an excellent untapped solar energy potential estimated at an average of 1800 kW-h per square meter.
