The 15th meeting of the General Assembly of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) wrapped up in Moscow, concluding two-day activities with the participation of the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
The talks centered on developing media performance as to keep pace with the current stage and serve ensuring the nationals security of the member countries, as well as enhancing cooperation among them in all fields.
SANA Director-General, Ahmad Dawa drew the attention of the participants to the fierce media campaign against Syria and the repeated attempts to hack SANA website, and stopping the broadcast of the Syrian channels on Arabsat and Nilesat in the context of the unfair sanctions imposed on Syria.
Dawa pointed out that no reactions came from the international media unions to condemn these sanctions, calling on the participants in the meeting to accord enough care to this issue.
Dawa hailed the solid cooperation between SANA and ITAR-TASS and the friendly news agencies.
In a televised interview with ITAR-TASS, SANA Director-General elaborated on the efforts of Syrian journalists to cover the events unfolding in their country against all odds, pointing out that several journalists have been martyred in the line of duty.
The Russian News Agency ITAR-TASS was elected President of the General Assembly of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) for the coming three years, with its Director-General Sergey Mikhailov elected president of the Organization.
The First Deputy Director General of ITAR-TASS Mikhail Gusman was elected the Secretary General of the Organization.
Mikhailov stressed in a speech the importance of cooperation and coordination among all member news agencies at OANA and the unpoliticized, objective coverage of events, thanking the participants for their confidence in ITAR-TASS to preside over the Organization.
