Former Belgian Senate President Anne-Marie Lizin said that a small group in French intelligence may be responsible for the idea of manufacturing the chemical weapons issue in Syria.

In an interview given to al-Manar TV's website, Lizing said that a small nucleus in French intelligence could be responsible for the manipulation that resulted in the chemical weapons issue, and that this nucleus wouldn't accept the French public opinion's rejection of war on Syria.

She said that she saw a video which raised her suspicions, in which an unseen cameraman was recording from a balcony and focusing on the location from which a rocket was launched 4 or 5 seconds before the rocket was actually launched, adding that while the truth may come out in the future, such videos manipulated feelings in the present and were followed by instigation by French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius and his team who influenced US State Secretary John Kerry.

Lizin attributed the hardline French position to a group of hardliners led by Fabius, saying that France is directly involved in supporting terrorists in Syria, citing an example in which a French-speaking man said on the Belgian public radio that he trains combatants who don't speak Arabic in Syria, adding that this man clearly works for a French agency.

On the British House of Commons' attitude towards war on Syria, Lizin said that the British MPs understand that intelligence agencies are the only ones who could have made the videos depicting the chemical attack while inspectors were nearby.

She pointed out that the European public opinion rejects aggression on Syria, with the majority of people in 28 European countries don't want a war, while over 80% of Belgian people reject war completely.

Lizin also lauded the Vatican's position on the situation in Syria and Pope Francis' call for praying for it, saying that this call affected European public opinion greatly and came at the right time, as Europeans don't want any more wars.

She concluded by stating that war in Syria serves Israel, something which Israeli officials acknowledged openly.
