Syria rejected offers in an international tender to purchase 100K tons of wheat

European traders announced on Monday that Syria has rejected all offers in an international tender to purchase 100 thousand tons of wheat flour, traders said that Syria sought through the tender, closed on February 27, to purchase wheat from any origin, and that shipping will be within two months of open letter of credit.

Accordint to Reuters, Syria refrained from buying in two previous tenders announced on the 10th of January and the 8th of February for a100 thousand tons of wheat.

The Syrian Government had in previous years imported wheat from abroad to be able to supply and the meet local needs, and also to take advantage of the price difference between soft wheat imported at a cheap price and the price of durum wheat exported for double the price.

On 2008 Syria announced its first tender to buy wheat from the global market in 15 years, that step was due to the decline of Syrian wheat production due to bad weather conditions.
