Kerry: Washington Committed to Cooperation with Moscow on Geneva 2
US Secretary of State, John Kerry said that Washington is committed to cooperation with Russia and other countries in the preparations ahead of the international conference on Syria due to be held in Geneva.

In a joint press conference with his German counterpart Guido Westerwelle in Washington on Friday, Kerry said that ''Geneva 1 is a formula for reaching a transitional government that has all executive powers based on the agreement of the Syrian people,'' hoping that the statement of the international action group in Geneva 1 would be a starting point for reaching a peaceful solution.

Answering a question on the 'foreign jihadists in Syria,' Kerry said that ''estimations put the number between 500-2000 persons, and we cannot give a definate number…As for the Americans, some might have chosen to take sides, but I cannot comment on this.''

The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) confirmed yesterday that a 33-year-old American woman called Nicole Lynn Mansfield was killed while fighting in Syria.

''Germany backs partnership related to an international conference on Syria, '' Westerwelle said, adding ''We need an enduring political process and urge the Syrian government to come to the negotiating table, and we also urge the opposition to unify ranks and take part in Geneva 2.''

''We also caution against torpedoing Geneva 2 conference, and urge the international community to realize its importance as a window of opportunity. We have to give it a chance to succeed, '' Westerwelle said.
