The 2014 Winter Olympics kicked off on Friday in Fisht Olympic Stadium in the Russian city of Sochi.

The opening ceremony was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin and 60 senior officials including over 40 heads of states.

Over 2,800 athletes from 88 countries will be competing for 98 medals in 15 winter sports disciplines throughout the Olympics which will be concluded on February 23rd
