Health Minister discusses cooperation with Cuban Ambassador and head of ICRC mission
Health Minister Dr. Nizar Yazigi met on Wednesday Cuban Ambassador in Damascus Fernando Perez Maza, discussing with him means of improving cooperation in the field of health, particularly in the fields of biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries.

Yazigi said that the unjust economic embargo on Syria had a negative impact on the health sector, which prompted the Ministry to seek new sources of medicine and vaccines.

For his part, Maza asserted Cuba’s firm support for Syria and its commitment to cooperation in various fields, particularly health, stressing that the best way to confront economic sanctions and media campaign is for the government and the people to stand together.

Yazigi also met head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) mission in Damascus Boris Michel, affirming to him that the Ministry is working at full strength and with complete impartiality to provide medical services to people without discrimination.

He affirmed the Ministry’s commitment to boosting partnership with various sides working in the health sector including civil societies and NGOs, first among them being the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC).

In turn, Michel voiced satisfaction over the facilitations provided by the Syrian government for delivering humanitarian aid to various areas, reviewing the ICRC mission’s work during the past two months.
