Al-Moallem: President Putin promised to support Syria on political, economic, and military levels |
Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a joint press conference on Monday in Moscow following meetings between Minister al-Moallem and Russian President Vladimir Putin and Minister Lavrov.
In the press conference, al-Moallem said that the President Putin stressed the necessity of finding a regional alliance for counterterrorism, and that President Putin promised to support Syria politically, economically and militarily.
“We think that the safest way to prepare for a successful conference in Geneva goes through Moscow” al-Moallem clarified.
For his part, Lavrov said that all countries in the region should put aside their differences to unify their efforts and focus on fighting terrorism.
“We discussed with Minister al-Moallem the strong support for resuming the inter-Syrian negotiations in the framework of Moscow Forum,” the Russian Foreign Minister said, adding “We will continue supporting the Syrian people in confronting the current difficulties.”
“Is it necessary for there to be victims in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and France in order for the world to become aware of the spread of terrorism?” al-Moallem asked, asserting that Syria has warned those who support terrorism in it that this terrorism will backfire on them.
