Czech Deputy Foreign Minister: Protecting Syrian cultural heritage is important for all humanity
Czech Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivo Sramek affirmed that protecting the Syrian cultural heritage is important for all humanity, noting that bilateral cooperation between the Czech Republic and Syria is developing successfully.

During a meeting with Director General of Antiquities and Museums Ma’amoun Abdul-Karim and his accompanying delegation, Sramek highlighted the importance of the declaration of intent that was signed on Monday between Syria and Czech, stressing that the Czech President Milos Zeman is personally concerned with the Czech contribution to the protection of Syrian cultural heritage.

He affirmed that the future of Syria should be determined by the Syrians themselves, pointing out that the Czech Foreign Ministry is following closely what is going on in Syria and is optimistic that the Astana and Geneva talks will soon lead to the cessation of hostilities and the restoration of stability in the country.

On Monday, Syria and Czech signed a declaration of intent to establish a long-term cooperation relationship in the field of restoration of archeological sites, in addition to protecting the cultural heritage in Syria and organizing exhibitions in Czech to shed light on Syria’s archaeological history and culture.
