Foreign and Expatriates Ministry Calls on UN and UNSC Member States to Condemn Massacre against Aleppo University Students and Terrorist Crimes in Syria
Foreign and Expatriates Ministry on Wednesday called upon the UN and the UN Security Council member states to condemn the terrorist crimes in Syria, including the massacre committed against Aleppo University students, employees and citizens who took refuge there.

Addressing two identical letters to the President of the UN Security Council and the UN Secretary General, the ministry said that the victims of the terrorist attack against the University of Aleppo are students who were on their first day of exams and they have no guilt but that they are continuing their educational attainment and prepare themselves to take part in their country's progress and building its future.

"On the afternoon of Tuesday, January, 15th, 2013, the armed terrorist groups targeted the University of Aleppo with two rocket shells from al-Lairamoun neighborhood, causing the martyrdom of 82 students and the injury of hundreds," the Ministry said in its letters.

It added that the terrorist attack caused damage to the university dormitory, which the Syrian Arab government used part of it to shelter the displaced people who were exposed to the bombardment of the terrorist groups which attacked Aleppo city and destroyed a lot of its economic and historic features over the last months.

The letters noted that the aggression on Aleppo University was not the first of its kind against educational institutions as those criminals destroyed more than 2362 schools and killed dozens of innocent children and teachers inside them.

The Ministry pointed out that the UN Security Council failed to condemn this terrorism till now ignoring its relevant resolutions in this regard and the will of the international community to eliminate its perpetrators and supporters.

The Ministry added that Syria calls upon the member states of the UN and the UN Security Council to condemn the terrorist crimes in Syria, including the massacre committed against Aleppo University students, employees and citizens who resorted to the university as there remains no excuse for states which are practicing double standards and supporting terrorism in Syria while they condemn it in another place.

"Meantime some parties, particularly in western countries, claim to combat terrorism in Mali – and we support combating terrorism wherever found – they support this terrorism and the same terrorist groups in Syria and cover its supporters regardless of the suffering of the Syrian people, the thousands of martyrs and the destruction caused by these terrorists and their supporters to the infrastructure established by the Syrian people, not to mention the huge damage caused by the terrorist groups to the public and private properties," the ministry said.

The Ministry added that the campaign against Syria is carried out in cooperation with media institutions which received calls from some western and Gulf countries to perform immoral mission and mislead the Syrians and the international public opinion regarding the events in Syria and falsifying facts.

The Ministry concluded that the terrorism of those killers will not prevent Syria from defending its citizens, students and schools, adding that Syria will continue to combat terrorism in line with working on the implementation of its political program to solve the crisis which is mainly based on dialogue among all spectrums of the Syrian people since it is the safest way out of this crisis
