Russian President's Advisor, Dmitry Peskov, announced that President Vladimir Putin held an emergency meeting of the permanent members at the Russian Security Council in which the situation in Syria was a focal point.
Peskov told journalists that the participants in the meeting exchanged views on some international issues and placed focus on the issue of settling the situation in Syria and the situation in the Middle East region in general.
Chairmen of the State Duma, the Federation Council, the Presidency Council, the Security Council and Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Interior and Defense, in addition to Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service attended the meeting.
Bogdanov and Syria's Ambassador Discuss Developments in Syria
Meanwhile, Russian President's Special Envoy to the Middle East, Deputy Foreign Minister, Mikhail Bogdanov, discussed with Syria's Ambassador in Moscow, Riyad Haddad, the developments in Syria and the bilateral relations between the two countries.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that developments on the situation in Syria were discussed in light of the latest contacts made by the Russian side with representatives of the Syrian opposition and Western partners with the aim to get to halting violence and starting national dialogue based on the Geneva Statement.
The statement pointed out that the discussions between Bogdanov and Haddad also dealt with issues related to developing the Syrian-Russian relations, including parliamentary communication.
