Activities of the Investment and Businessmen Forum started in Damascus on Monday, organized by the Syrian Investment Commission (SIC) in cooperation with the Syrian-European Group.
The 2-day forum discusses the investment atmosphere, available opportunities and the investment in industrial cities, in addition to the new investment draft law and tourist and real estate investment.
Minister of Economy and Trade Dr. Muhammad Nidal al-Shaar said that the investment attraction mechanisms have become known and so have tax exemptions, state support and facilitations, adding that the challenge is to put legislations in their right place, especially that the Syrian economy enjoys competitive advantages that encourage investment in several sectors.
He called for orienting capital to investments that yield lucrative revenues and creating an economic tourist culture that depends on merging economy and tourism.
Director of the Syrian Investment Commission Ahmad Diab said that the economic feasibility studies showed that there are more 300 investment opportunities with lucrative investment revenues in Syria He added that holding the forum at this time has a positive and direct effect on the economic and investment activity, calling upon investors to make use of the competitive advantages of the investment processes.
The first session of the forum discussed the investment opportunities and the competitive advantages of the investment process in Syria.
Assistant Minister of Industry Rashad al-Esseh highlighted the Ministry's interest in investment in the textile sector whose raw materials are available, which guarantees 90 per cent of its success.
The second session highlighted the investment guarantees and its legal, social and economic aspects and the resort to arbitration to solve disputes that may arise during the investment process.
Assistant Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Dr. Hassan Hijazi reviewed the work legislations necessary to regulate relation between the employer and employee, citing need to preserve the rights of both sides.
