Al-Jaafari slams foreign hysteria to throw Syria's elections into confusion
Syria\'s Permanent Representative to the UN Bashar al-Jaafari highlighted an "aggressive hysteria" that has swept some Western and Arab capitals since presidential elections in Syria were announced, adding that this hysteria has started to move into the UN lobbies.

Speaking to the Syrian al-Ikhbaria TV late Tuesday, al-Jaafari said the countries conspiring against Syria have distributed hostile roles among themselves, with France "taking upon itself the role of inciting public opinion against Syria inside the international organization."

He slammed as "futile" the recently French-drafted resolution at the Security Council on referring the Syrian file to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The resolution, al-Jaafari said, aimed at "piling up political pressure on the Syrian government and throwing into confusion the presidential elections so as to end up in a state of constitutional, political and security vacuum."

The final aim of all of that, he added, is to make the Syria state a failure so that it sovereign immunity could be withdrawn and its doors left ajar before foreign intervention under whatever cover, bet it that of the humanitarian file, combating terrorism or the ICC.

The humanitarian issue seems to be the focus of another "more dangerous and more important" draft resolution being prepared by Britain behind the scenes of the Security Council, as the Syrian Ambassador unveiled.

The to-be-put forth resolution, said al-Jaafari, has had the way clear for it by a report released by the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on the implementation of resolution 2139 that deals with the humanitarian situation in Syria.

He lashed out at Ban\'s report for being "rife with political and information mistakes and political misleading" as it called in one of its clauses on the UN to deal with Jabhat al-Nusra, formally listed as a terrorist organization by the Security Council, for humanitarian aid delivery purposes near Aleppo on Syria\'s north border with Turkey.

The report, he said, could have referred to Kassab border crossing that can be used for aid delivery, but intentionally overlooked it while the crossing continues to be used by the Turkish authorities to transfer terrorists in Kassab town and deep into the coastal area.

Another similar attempt at forced foreign intervention seems to later come to light through a move urged by Saudi Arabia, following the failure of the French resolution by two vetoes from Russia and China, Syria\'s UN Representative noted.

The move takes the form of drafting a resolution to be submitted to the UN General Assembly so as to encourage intervention in Syria without demanding a Security Council consent, in a another way to get around, al-Jaafari added.

He lambasted the Saudi move as "illegal" and "unacceptable by many countries" as it aims at withdrawing the Syrian government\'s membership and granting it to the so-called "Coalition government".

While affirming that Syria\'s major weapon in the face of the internal terrorist hysteria and external political hysteria is the army and media inside and diplomacy outside, al-Jaafari said Syria also relies on many friends who respect its stances.

He criticized the report of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) on the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Syria for failing to mention the causes which triggered the humanitarian crisis in the first place, most importantly being the terrorism dimension on the Syrian land, the shortfall in international funding and flawed coordination among the UN agencies.

He cited a most recent example where the organization did not coordinate with the concerned Syrian parties over Douma yesterday, leading to having aid blocked access to civilians and looted by armed groups, stressing that the Syrian government covers 80% of the needs.
